When One Decision
Can Change Everything

Sometimes you need to answer one big question before anything else can begin.

The issue probably has financial, mission, governance, and staffing consequences at once. It may have been discussed for months without resolution, because there's no trusted evidence, no shared way to weigh the options, or no one with the capacity to move it forward.

The questions usually sound like this:

  • Is our current structure still right for the organization we've become?

  • Can we afford the strategic plan we approved?

  • Should we expand, redesign, or close this program?

  • Is our staffing model sustainable?

  • What is our actual financial position?

  • What happens if we do nothing?

Questions like these often get handed to a strategic planning process that isn't built to answer them. A single consequential decision about program sustainability, organizational structure, or financial position needs evidence and a timeline, not a planning cycle.

How I help

I start by defining the decision. That sounds obvious, but organizations often find that different leaders have been answering different versions of the question.

Then I gather and test what's needed to evaluate the options: financial data, operational implications, stakeholder perspectives, governance considerations, mission impact, and your ability to execute. I help leadership work through the tradeoffs and reach a decision that's understood, supported, and ready to act on.

The goal isn't to remove uncertainty. Consequential decisions rarely come with certainty. The goal is to replace delay and circular discussion with evidence, judgment, and a clear next step.

A hard decision made with confidence and evidence, not postponed because of uncertainty.
