When Your Organization Needs Leadership During Transition

When executive leadership changes, the organization doesn’t stop operating.

Staff need direction. The board needs accurate information. Funders and partners need confidence. Financial and operational decisions can't wait for the search to end.

I provide experienced interim executive leadership during transition, uncertainty, or change. Interim leadership is more than holding the chair until someone permanent arrives. It's continuity, stability, addressing what can't be deferred, and preparing both the organization and its next leader for a successful handoff.

This may include

  • Interim Executive Director or interim CEO

  • Executive leave or sabbatical coverage

  • Founder transition

  • Executive search support

  • Organizational stabilization

How I lead

I come in with respect for the mission, the people, and the work already underway. I learn quickly, set clear priorities, make the decisions that need making, communicate directly with staff and board leadership, and create enough stability for the organization to keep moving.

Interim periods sometimes bring to light issues that were already present: unclear accountability, unresolved financial concerns, strained governance, or programs that no longer fit. When those affect continuity or the next leader's success, they're better addressed than handed forward unchanged.

I've been through executive transitions from inside the organization, including handing off to the leader who followed me. That shapes how I think about what a next leader needs to inherit.

Your board stays actively engaged throughout. The goal isn't dependence on an interim leader. It's a stronger organization ready for permanent leadership.

Leadership continuity, organizational stability, and a successful transition to permanent leadership.
